15 Haunted Forests

Conde Nast Traveler is usually known for profiling exotic locales and fabulous accommodations. In this outing, they take readers on a journey through genuinely creepy places. What is shocking is how well-known many are but you will never think of them in the same way.

Griffith Park is a part of Hollywood fame but an angry niece haunts its enchanting views. Highgate Cemetery is one of London's least visited tourists destinations, perhaps due to its vampiric residents. The Brothers Grimm set many a fairy tale in The Black Forest. No wonder, given a headless horseman plies his terrible trade amongst trolls, nymphs and werewolves.

This one definitely sends chills. Pine Barrens in New Jersey is home to the Jersey Devil. According to legend, the creature was born in 1735 to Deborah Leeds—her thirteenth child—with leathery wings, a goat's head, and hooves. It flew up the Leeds' chimney and into the Barrens, and it has been killing livestock and creeping out South Jersey residents ever since.

Other haunts include Wychwood Forest, Cameron Park, Epping Forest, Free-Town Fall River, and it ends off with the aptly named, Devil's Tramping Ground. Here is the full article. By the way, the Jersey Devil is creeping me out too.
